The Living Seas Facts & Figures

  • The Living Seas is the largest man made aquarium in the world

  •  You could fit Space Ship Earth, at it’s widest point, in the aquarium of The Living Seas with room to spare

  •   The Living Seas aquarium holds approximately 5 ½ MILLION gallons of water

  •  There are 61 acrylic windows that allow guests view the aquarium inhabitants

  •  The acrylic windows are between 6 and 8 inches thick 

  •  Acrylic is used for the windows rather than glass because acrylic allows for much clearer viewing of the inhabitants and provides truer color 

  •  The Living Seas pavilion took nearly two years to complete

  •  The coral in the tank is not live coral – it was man made to replicate a natural reef

  •  The tube that the divers use to enter and exit the aquarium uses nearly 4,000 gallons of water – it takes about one minute to fill and 45 seconds to empty again.
